Less than a month before the April 27, 2011 tornado, Vicki and Samuel Edwards moved to Tuscaloosa from Ohio to be near their daughter and two granddaughters. When the storm hit, Vicki, their daughter, and two granddaughters were in their Rosedale home and sheltered in the bathroom. Their home was destroyed, their daughter and older granddaughter were killed in the storm, and Vicki and their younger granddaughter, Anaya, were severely injured. After a couple of months in the hospital, Vicki was able to come home and Anaya came to live with them. The Edwards family has worked hard to rebuild their lives. Vicki is employed as a custodian at Alabama Power and Samuel works for a local plant. Their lifelong dream is to own their own home, and the Tuscaloosa County Bar Association hopes to raise $100,000 to completely sponsor the Edwards’ house.
