Welcome to do it yourself eliquid recipes. I’m john im an flavor compounder and today I will go over 3 reasons on why some flavors might taste bitter to you. Now like everyone else, before buying new flavors you might read reviews of must have flavors that everybody is suggesting to get, a few to name are Vanilla Bean Ice Cream from TFA, Sugar Cookie from Capella, Dragonfruit from TFA, and Vienna Cream from Flavourart.
These flavors are arguably a few of the most popular diy flavors and rightfully so I wouldn’t say. But there is a minority of people that when they try these flavors they taste bitter to them or even plainly disgusting.
I have heard of people tasting pepper inside vanilla flavors and others tasting mowed grass inside dragon fruit. If you are one of these people then there might be 3 reasons why. So I will start with number 1 which is the possibility that you are a supertaster.
This is an ability that about 1 in 10 people have and in a very simplified explanation, A supertaster is a person who experiences the sense of taste with far greater intensity than average, with some studies showing an increased sensitivity to bitter tastes.
Now if you have this ability or curse depending on how you see things, then you might want to vape fruit based eliquids rather than thick creams or other intense flavors. Moving on to number 2 is using too much flavoring.
Going back to the last point I just mentioned that these flavors are considered as strong or intense. They have a mixture of mainly different aromas to create the final flavor and since some of those aromas are very consecrated if these flavorings are used at a higher ratio than usual then these compounds will take over and become almost the only thing that you will taste.
Some of these aromas are butyric acid, acetoin, vanillin and acetyl Pyrazine. These are all prominent and strong flavors that are fine when used as enhancers but tend to overpower and add unwanted aftertastes in higher ratios.
And then last is number 3, this one I kept it at the end because even though its an important point it still has a smaller effect than the last 2. So this will be steeping for not enough time. As you might know already these flavors or other similar ones need a very long steep to mellow out and blend in properly.
Without the proper blending and stepping method these flavors will separate under heat and when you vape them you will taste them in 2 stages. First will be the normal eliquid flavor of your recipe, and then if they are not steeped or blended properly you will get a weird spicy almost cinnamon like aftertaste.
If this is something that is happening to your cream vapes then extend your mixing time and also shake the bottle every few days while steeping. Now if you have any of the problems mentioned before or if you have found a different additional solution to bitter eliquids As always I would like to hear your thoughts.
Now once more thank you for being a part in our community and I will see you again next time.
